These fun lanterns are easy to make and such a cute handcrafted Halloween activity to do with your young children! Enjoy!
What You'll Need to Get Started:
Supplies:
One or more jars
A paper bowl
A foam paint brush
School glue
Acrylic paint colors of your choice
A black marker
Any decorative additions you want to add to the outside of the jar, for example: pre-cut or hand cut sillhouettes, fabric, stickers, etc.
Mod Podge (it is a glue, sealant, etc. I found a jar at Target)
Tea lights (battery operated preferred, you can use regular tea lights as well)
Step 1: Lay out your supplies
Step 2: Add a good amount of glue to a paper bowl and mix in your paint until you reach your desired color. I noticed since the glue is white you will have to add more paint. I read online that you want to use more glue so that the jar is transparent. You are basically tinting the glue.
Step 3: Select a decorative item to add the Halloween spirit to your jar lantern. I found this glitter spider web print mesh and decided to wrap it around the jar and tied a bow on top. You can also cut out a silhouette of a ghost, spider, or jack o' lantern to have illuminated by the light of your lantern. First I brushed on a thin coat of mod podge on the outside of the jar. Then I cut my mesh fabric and wrapped it around the jar.
Step 4: Add your tea light candle. I used battery operated ones as you can see. I think it is best considering the glue and paint won't get heated up. Then I drew on a spooky jack o' lantern face onto the side of my jar, and Voila! You have a festive Halloween Lantern to decorate your home.
