Sky Kids Yoga is made up of dedicated teachers who work with our community of youngsters. This month we would like to thank our wondrous Blair for telling us about herself and spreading the mission of showing kids how to move to be more whole in their bodies.
What do you like to do at SKY?
I love using Laurie Berkner songs in my yoga classes- I have seen her in concert 2x and my kids were obsessed with her songs when they were toddlers. It brings back such fun memories for me. I also like to start my classes with a warm up song and end with a savasana song. My favorite pose to teach is Tree Pose. I like when the kids hold each other's hands for help. I also like showing how fun it can be to fall out of a pose and get back into it (or choose not to).
Could you share some tips with us?
My family does balloon breaths at home a lot when we are stressed and want to restore. I think it is an easy and effective way to learn to take some breaths, calm yourself, and connect movement to breath.
How did you first get into yoga?
I started doing yoga in elementary school. My mom went to a yoga class that someone ran out her house and she started a kids class for a bunch of my mom's friends kids. After college, living in NYC, yoga became part of my daily life. I lived across from a yoga studio and I went almost every single day. I completed YTT in 2020 but never taught because of life and kids etc. But now that my kids are both in school full time I can teach yoga at Shakti Kids Yoga!
