Sometimes staying completely still during Savasana can be difficult for children. A wonderful alternative is incorporating Mindful Coloring.
At the end of each SKY yoga class, we save time for Savasana. A tool that has been effective for helping children calm their minds and bodies is allowing them to engage in mindful coloring. Teachers play calming music and provide students with a coloring page (flowers, mandalas, animals, etc.) and coloring tool. Students are asked to lay on their mats and focus on their creative flow. Allowing students up to 10-15 mintues of mindful coloring helps calm their nervous systems.
